Awards

It's the members that make this association so great- outstanding people working together to make an impact on this industry and their community.  The National Association of Health Underwriters honors regions, state chapters, local chapters, and individual members for their outstanding contributions.

 


National Awards

National honors are awarded for outstanding acheivement at NAHU's National Conference in June each year.  Click on the name of the award to see the selection criteria.


NAHU Individual Awards


Harold Gordon Memorial Award:
NAHU's highest honor, the Gordon Award recognizes the health insurance industry's "Person of the Year."  Former NAHU National Presidents and New Orleans members George Emrick and Jim Henderson are both previous winners of NAHU's highest honor.


Distinguished Service Award
:
Presented to members who have contributed significantly above and beyond what is normally called for in connection with association volunteer service. Immediate Past President Christine Buras was a proud winner of the Distinguished Service Award in June 2003.  Prior local winners are Ray Cumpsten and Linda Ray.


Wetzel Excellence in Public Speaking Award:
Honors members who have demonstrated excellence in public presentations.


Leading Producers Round Table:
Honors members for health and disability insurance sales achievement. In 2006, Gordon Naquin and Jennifer Toups were honored with the Leading Producers Round Table Award.  Applications must be postmarked by March 31.  Get the application forms below: 2007 LPRT Award

Spirit of Freedom Legislative Award:
  Presented to members who have made significant contributions of time and effort in the area of federal legislation. 
 

NAHU Chapter Awards

Pacesetter Award: *  Honors local chapters for outstanding achievements and excellence in serving their members and the industry.  NOAHU won this award in 2004 & in 2003 as one of the top chapters in the country.

Media Relations Award: The Media Relations Award honors state and local associations for outstanding media relations. All state and local associations are eligible and encouraged to apply for the award.


Presidential Citation Award:
  Presented to all state and local associations that have strengthened their membership and public outreach programs. Stephanie Booth McGinnis won this award in 2005.

Robert Osler Education Award: Presented to the individual member, state or local chapter for outstanding achievement in promoting continuing education.


Public Service Award:
  Presented to a state or local chapter for excellence in public service activities.

Website Award
: * Two awards, presented to the state and local chapters with the most effective and easily used websites. New Orleans won the award for top chapter website in 2005.


Chapter Legislative Excellence Award:
Honors state and local chapters that excel in their legislative involvement by performing outstanding service throughout the year.

GAIN

Get Agents Involved Now

The GAIN competition is NAHU's annual national membership contest. Chapters, states and regions are recognized for excellence in recruiting and retaining members.  The contest runs from May 1 - April 30 each year.  GAIN awards are handed out the National Conference in June. 

Following are the GAIN categories:

  • Most New Members
  • Growth Rate
  • Retention
  • Overall

The competition is broken down into Large and Small Chapter categories.

At the National Conference in Dallas in 2002, NOAHU came in first place in the nation for Growth Rate.


Current Standings:

GAIN reports are published on NAHU's website each month.  As of the most recent report, New Orleans is #1 for Large Chapters.  Help keep us there by recruiting a new member or two!


 
Immediate Past President Stephanie Booth McGinnis was honored with the national Presidential Citation award.  This award recognizes outstanding acheivement by chapter presidents.  NAHU President Trei Wild presented Stephanie with the award. Congratulations Stephanie!

At the NAHU National Conference, held in Baltimore in June 2004, the New Orleans Chapter was awarded with NAHU's top chapter honor, the Pacesetter Award for the second consecutive year.  The Pacesetter recognizes the top 14 chapters in the country each year.  The award is broken down into 4 size catgories.  In the Medium-Large chapter category, New Orleans was one of 3 winners, along with Oklahoma City AHU and Inland Empire AHU (CA). The picture shows the New Orleans delegation and the Acadiana delegation, which also won the pacesetter in the small chapter category, with 2002-2003 President Eva Jean Fomalont.   Immediate Past President, Cindy Osborne, accepted the award on behalf of the chapter.  NOAHU members present at the Awards Breakfast were  Christine Buras, Denny Ebersole, Sharon Hannahan, George Emrick, Cindy Osborne and Jennifer Toups.  NOAHU looks forward to repeating our win again next year!

Immediate Past President Christine Buras, REBC, RHU, LTCIS was honored with the Distinuished Service Award, which recognizes the extended service and contributions of the top members in the country!  Only 12 awards are given each year. 
   
 
Local Awards

The New Orleans Association of Health Underwriters awards two major awards each year at the annual meeting, held in June.  Nominations are solicited from members in April/ May and finalists are voted on by the Selections committee. 

Health Underwriter of the Year This award is given to the New Orleans chapter member in good standing who has had the most impact on the chapter in the past year. 

New Member of the Year ("Spark Plug") This award is given to a member in good standing who as a new member has incited the most excitement, movitation or enthusiasm.  The member must have joined after the close of the last nomination period.
